Cluster Notification Integration with External Alerting tools

Alert notification in MedStack can be enabled for per Cluster basis, however for each company a maximum of 3 email address can be added to whom the event notifications will be sent for alerts generated by any cluster in the company. As the alert notifications are sent as email, this makes it possible to integrate the alerts with external tools such as PagerDuty, Slack or any tool that support Email integration. 

This article will go through the steps on how to enable cluster notifications and how to manage notification list in MedStack control. This article will also go through how to enable the email integration in PagerDuty and Slack.

Enable Cluster Notification

The notification can be enable for each cluster, for example if you wish to receive any alerts on the Production Cluster. 

Steps to Enable Cluster notification:

1. Go to Cluster
2. Click on Manage Notification button
3. Click on the Toggle to enable the Node Down alerts notification

Managing Notification List

In the Notification list, you can add up-to 3 email address that should be notified in case a node becomes unresponsive or goes down. Notification list section be found under the Company settings pages.

Steps to adding email to the notification list:

1. Go to the Company Settings page and scroll down to the Notification list section
2. Click on Add Email button
3. Enter the Email Address in the text field and Click on Add Email button

PagerDuty Email Integration

You can create a PagerDuty service integration with Email to trigger a PagerDuty incident. Follow the steps for "Integrating with a PagerDuty Service" section for the steps on setting up Email integration for PagerDuty service.

Once you have setup an Email integration with your PagerDuty service, you can use the email address that you got from email integration on PagerDuty and add it to the Notification list. Once you have added the PagerDuty email address to the notification list you will receive a PagerDuty incident each time an alert is triggered by MedStack's monitors. 

Slack Email Integration

You can create an Email Integration with Slack in order to be notified for any Node down alerts triggered by MedStack's monitors. Follow "Send emails to Slack" article on how to setup email integration with Slack. Once you have setup an email address on Slack, you can add the Slack email to the notification list and you will start receiving the notification in your Slack each time an alert is triggered by MedStack's monitors.
